Time was when this was a daily scene. At the time the photograph was taken, in the 1890's, the horse tram was still a novelty and a ride on the top a recurrent delight for the less sophisticated juveniles of the late Victorian era. The Corporation does not seem to have overburdened its "horse power" with superfluous flesh!. The horse drawn tram never run in Far Cotton. The trams commenced service in Northampton on June 4th 1881 by a private business. This was sold to the council in 1901 and the 22 tram cars and 102 horses were retired in 1904 to make way for the electric tram.
