Howard Kendrick
My Father Howard was born in Northampton in 1875 and moved to Southampton road in 1930. He was a batman to Lieutenant Mulliner and is pictured here with Mulliners cars outside Delapre Abbey gates and finally with Mulliners coach, reputed to be the first in Northampton.
I remember during the second world war there were bomb shelters down the middle of St Leonards Road. They were brick built with a concrete slab roof.
On each corner was a paraffin lamp. The lamps had little wicks with a straight glass flue. My fathers job was to
fill the lamps with paraffin from a lorry.
One day a lamp spilt and the lorry caught fire and burned down to the ground in Thirlestane Road.
