Manor House

As yet we have found no definative photograph of the manor house in far cotton that was situated behind the Tivoli. Most older residents remember the waste ground that was the site of the olfd manor house. Can you help?

These photos were taken in 1951 on the "Old Manor" between the rear of Alton Street and Main Road. Amy Gordon and Wendy Cowley. Gordon had the ukulele for his 15th birthday on December 20th and after teaching himself to play, he was playing in the Clinton, entertaining the customers 6 days later on Boxing Day.

...We are now rapidly approaching Northampton Station, and the only other objects to be noticed before we reach it are two small tumuli on the left, and a building on the right which its present modernized condition would hardly attract attention, but which a few months back retained some very interesting architectural features. It was the old Manor House of Far Cotton, and residdence of the ancenstors of the celebrated Hervey, who wrote the once popular Meditations in the tombs.
